What are the differences between country boots and city boots?

If you're one of those who say that boots are just boots, stay because we're going to open your mind.

Like everything else, boots have a purpose. First came the demand: the ankle is a fragile and vulnerable part of the body, and feet get cold in conventional shoes. This demand led to the boots' purpose: to protect the ankle and warm the foot. In the beginning, a single pair of boots would do for any activity, but as the world has evolved, the footwear industry has evolved with it, and now the boots you need for cross-country skiing bear little or no resemblance to the ones you need for walking around town in cold weather.

Country boots are designed to offer durability, support, and protection on difficult terrain. This means that, unlike city boots, they are built to withstand extreme conditions such as mud, water, rocks, or uneven terrain. The material of country boots is typically thicker and more durable, using waterproof leathers or special fabrics to keep your feet dry. Additionally, the soles of these boots are designed to provide traction on unstable surfaces, helping you maintain balance and stability while walking on uneven trails or paths.

Another key feature of field boots is the ankle reinforcement. These boots are designed to stabilize and protect this area of the body, as hiking on rugged terrain can be risky without proper support. For example, styles like our Chelsea in waxed leather (insert product link – Chelsea Waxy Chestnut) offer everything you need for a hike in the countryside: waterproofing, support, and durability.

On the other hand, city boots focus on style, comfort, and versatility, without losing sight of functionality for the urban environment. While they also provide foot and ankle protection, their design is lighter and more streamlined to adapt to everyday city activities. The materials are finer, and aesthetics are often prioritized so they can be combined with different outfits, from casual to more formal.

As for the sole, city boots tend to have a flatter, more flexible design, suitable for walking on pavement. This makes them more comfortable for shorter distances, but they don't offer the same grip or protection on uneven terrain as country boots. City boots also tend to be easier to maintain and clean, as they're made with materials less exposed to extreme conditions. Models like the Pontevedra (insert product link – Pontevedra Becerro Mururoa ) or the Olvera (insert product link – Olvera Ante Chocolate) are examples of urban boots, where elegance and comfort come together without sacrificing functionality.
