Shoes for suits Do you know how to combine footwear?

The executive world can be a real die hard. It wouldn't be the first time that the decisive factor in a promotion is the quality of the candidate's attire. In the workplace, image matters a lot, and even more so in the white- collar sector. And it's no use wearing a super-expensive suit if you're going to top it off with boat shoes (insert product link – Bayona Tostado Calfskin) , like Greg in Succession . A bad shoe ruins a good suit as much as a good shoe enhances it. Nervous? Don't worry, we'll help you.

The first thing to keep in mind is the color code. Everyone knows that some colors combine better than others, but do you know which ones make the biggest impact in the world of suits?

  • Blue and burgundy: Two colors that are love at first sight. That wine-colored (insert product link – Doñana Becerro Burdeos) on your shoes can bring out the best in your navy suit. Some argue that it's a more natural combination than black shoes. If you can add matching suspenders (insert product link – Burgundy Suspenders) or cufflinks to the outfit—never match your shoe with your tie—you can be sure it will make a positive statement. But remember! Your socks (insert link to accessories collection) should always be darker than your suit and shoes, and can be either burgundy or blue.

  • Charcoal grey and dark brown: Charcoal grey suits have been very popular in recent seasons, and they look fantastic with classic black oxfords (insert product link – Doñana Becerro Negro) , but as the Americans say, fortune favors the bold, and chocolate brown shoes are a real eye-catcher when paired with a charcoal grey suit. Be careful, because balance is strength, and not all browns look equally good. Light browns run the risk of looking tacky when worn with a suit, but a brown like our Madrid brown (insert product link – Madrid Becerro Mururoa ) scratches that aesthetic itch perfectly, and even more so if you pair it with good Scottish yarn socks (insert product link – Cibeles Marrón) in the same color. Know-how makes all the difference.

  • Black... and black: If you're a waiter, an undertaker, or just like black suits, you'll know by now that the saying "black goes with everything" doesn't apply to suits. If you wear black, wear black. Black with buckles (insert product link – Barcelona Becerro Negro) , black with laces (insert product link – Doñana Becerro Negro) , black loafers (insert product link – Castilla Becerro Negro) , but black. And, of course, black socks (insert product link – Cibeles Negro) , no doubt about it.

The Barcelona model brings us to the next point when it comes to combining footwear with suits: The picado, yes or no?

Picado refers to the decorative embossed design found on some shoes, usually on the toe, instead of being completely plain (insert product link – Doñana Becerro Mururoa ) . It's often said that this is entirely a matter of taste, but that's not exactly the case.

It's a matter of taste, yes, for everyday wear, but for more formal occasions, it's advisable to wear plain shoes, as the pointed toe is considered to detract a bit from the formality of the outfit. That's why pointed toe shoes are considered more versatile, as no one would be surprised to see Ordesa shoes (insert product link – Ordesa Becerro Mururoa ) paired smart casually (insert article link – What footwear is appropriate for smart casual?) with beige chinos and a blue shirt, as well as with a gray suit. If you're looking for a shoe that will give you the range to wear on many different occasions, pointed toe shoes will be your best friend.

And tassels? They're welcome. If loafers are your thing, there's no better way to represent Spain than with some nice tassels on your feet to finish off your suit. But be careful, because not all tassel loafers are suitable for wearing with a suit. They should be structured and in formal colors and fabrics. If you're looking for something timeless, you could opt for the Castilla model (insert product link – Castilla Antic Negro) , which is the quintessential suit loafer. But if you want something fresher and summery, the Sevilla model in antic. (insert product link – Sevilla Antic Bordeaux) covers your needs. But be careful! Always wear socks.
